-
~ CHAPrER IV
'"
-/

EAST RIVER UNIT

Environmental Impacts

Most of the environmental impacts of the East River Unit would be
associated with Cement Creek Dam and Reservoir. Activities associated
,nth construction would increase the noise, traffic, and dust in the
area. Excavation on the terraces of East River would alter the existing
landscape even after shaping and revegetation of the disturbed areas_

The reservoir would inundate about 137 acres of a picturesque val-
ley. Meadows, sagebrush, and willows dominate the vegetation on the val-
ley floor while aspen, spruce, fir, and lodgepole pine surround the
margins of the reservoir, particularly on the south and east sides. The
reservoir also would inundate about a mile of self-sustaining stream
fishery and a small resort. The reservoir would fluctuate very little
and would be a scenic recreation and fishing retreat. Spring flows below
Cement Creek Dam would be reduced slightly and the late seaSon flows in-
creased slightly.

J

Cement Creek, as viewed from potential Cement Creek Reservoir Basin.

28
