<br />OJ <br />en <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br /> <br />GENERAL INFORMATION <br /> <br />Local Support <br /> <br />State and local interests have actively supported the investigations <br />covered in this report. The Upper Gunnison Water Conservancy District was <br />organized July 9, 1959, as a sponsoring and administrative agency for an <br />Upper Gunnison Project. The district covers the entire Gunnison River <br />Basin above Blue Mesa Dam. The State of Colorado and local interests con- <br />tributed $32,200 to expedite the investigations and maintain gaging stations <br />on streams in the area. The Colorado River Water Conservation District <br />assisted in the investigations and made water right filings for the proj- <br />ect. Ranchers in the area have expressed their need for additional irri- <br />gation water to the Bureau of Reclamation through public meetings and <br />through the Board of Directors of the Upper Gunnison Water Conservancy <br />District. <br /> <br />9 <br />
