<br />t'- <br />~) <br />M <br />C\! <br /> <br />CHAPTER IV <br /> <br />PLAN FORMULATION <br /> <br />Thornburgh Dam would be a rolled earthfill structure rising 129 <br />feet above the streambed and would be 755 feet long at the crest. The <br />reservoir spillway would have a capacity of 3,100 second-feet with the <br />reservoir at maximum water surface elevation 6,724 feet. The outlet <br />works would be capable"of releasing 160 second-feet with the reservoir <br />at water surface elevation 6,675 feet. <br /> <br />North Fork Diversion Dam <br /> <br />The,North Fork Diversion Dam would be a reinforced concrete struc- <br />ture and would include a conduit headworks, a sluiceway, fish screens, <br />and an uncontrolled overflow weir. The weir would be about 8.5 feet high <br />and 50 feet wide and would be designed to pass a flood flow of 3,200 <br />second-feet. The headworks would be of reinforced concrete and would be <br />controlled by an electrically-operated radial gate. Headworks capacity <br />would be 300 second-feet. <br /> <br />White River Feeder Conduit <br /> <br />The White River Feeder Conduit would have a diameter of 90 inches <br />and a capacity of 300 second-feet from the North Fork Diversion Dam to <br />the Lake Avery Turnout. The total length would be 8.7 miles. About <br />4.7 miles of the conduit would be a tunnel between the White River and <br />Big Beaver Valley. The Lake Avery Turnout would be at the downstream <br />tunnel portal. The conduit would siphon under the Big Beaver Valley to <br />enter a second tunnel 3,024 feet long length through Oak Ridge to the <br />Little Beaver Valley. From the Lake Avery Turnout to the Oak Ridge <br />Tunnel, it would have a capacity of 200 second-feet and a diameter of 78 <br />inches .,' <br /> <br />Lake Avery Enlargement <br /> <br />The enlarged Lake Avery would have a capacity of 45,000 acre-feet of <br />which 37,000 would be active and 8,000 inactive. At normal water surface <br />elevation, 7,090 feet, the reservoir would have a surface area of 575 <br />acres. <br /> <br />The dam would be a rolled earthfill structure and would rise 185 <br />feet above the streambed and have a crest length of 1,100 feet. The <br />spillway would have a capacity of 4,850 second-feet, and the outlet <br />works would be capable of discharging 100 second-feet. <br /> <br />Avery Pumping Plant <br /> <br />The Avery Pumping Plant, with a capacity of 195 second-feet, would <br />consist of six electrically-operated pumps. Total design head would be <br />260 feet. Power could be purchased from the Colorado River Storage <br />Project and delivered by the White River Electric Association. <br /> <br />47 <br />
