!.....
~
00
'"J

Transbasin Diversions

There are two Civersions frOD streams outside its drain-

age area into West Divide Creek, ownec by the Divide Creek Highline

Canal. In the following discussion it is assuned that suitable

arrangements can be ~Jace for use of these diversions by the project

when the water is not needed by the canal.

From a point in section 29, T. 9 s., R. 91 W., on Owens

Creek, a tributary of Buzzard Creek, a ditch having an adjudicated

right of 18.9 second-feet and Graining ,alJout 3 square miles leads

across the divide to the heaC of Muddy Gulch and thence in to West

Divide Creek. The water c0nmissioner in District 42, whence this

water cones, reports diversions:

in 1935 - 542 acre-feet, from 1by 10 to July 9.
in 1936 -1808 qcre-feet, from 1by 25 to July 10,

all of which was flood water. This water cannot be stored directly,

but its use will permit storage of a srrnll amount by exchange from

excess water of West Divide Creek when inflow below the reservoir

is inadequate for project canals, but the addition of this trans-

basin diversion would increase that supply beY',nd project require-

~~
~
~
~
iJ;

mente

While the exact location is not available, a ditch fram

i;

Basin Creek (Clear Fork of Muddy Creek), a tributary of Gunnison

~~

River, with an adjudicated right of 33.33 second-feet diverts

water from about 5t square miles into the head of West Divide

40
