Water Year 1993

By December 1992, Blue Mesa Reservoir will be drawn down to
at least an elevation of 7490.0 acre-feet in order to minimize icing
problems in the Gunnison River. Blue Mesa will continue to be
drawn down through April of 1993 to the level that will
accommodate the most probable inflow scenario and accomplish
the release objectives with a minimum of powerplant bypasses.
Under all but the most adverse inflow scenarios. Blue Mesa is
expected to fill in the sumnler of 1993. The filling of the reservoir
next year will insure tbat reasonable specific releases required to
study the protection and improvement of habitat for endangered
fish can be made. The forecasted runoff during the spring of 1993
will bc constantly monitored to achieve these objectives.

The minimum release objective of the unit is to me.el the delivery
requirements of the Uncompahgre Valley Project and to keep a
minimum of 300 cubic feet per second flowing through the Black
Canyon of the GunnisonNational Monument. To protect the blue
ribbon troul fishery in the Black Canyon and maximize recreation
potential, releases during 1993 will be carefully planned to
minimize large fluctuations in the daily and monthly flows.

Assuming most probable inflow conditions, releases from Crystal
Reservoir will range from 1,200 cubic reet per second to the
maximum capacity of 4,200 cubic feet per second.

ACTUAL BLUE MESA STORAGE 1992

THOUSAND ACRE-FEET
100

r--., V '-...,
'-.
" ""-, /

...

...

...

...

..."" >l I:.. ~.
