I

August 30, 1978
78 - 2 PSIAC Minutes

,
CWIC REPORT: Presented by Chairman ,Professor Sol Resnick

Mr. Chairman and members of the Committee. The CWIC is the Consortium

of Colorado River and Great Basin Water Institutes and Centers. These are

the seven State Water Research Institutes provided under the Water Resources

Research Act of 1964. We have the pleasure of having Ted Roefs from the

U.S. Office of Water Research and Technology with us at the meeting here.

Discussed with the Executive Subcommittee were status reports on five

regional projects. Completion reports are now available on request for

two projects: The Drought Information Program, a study in which the Utah

Center had been a clearing house for drought information collected by 11

western State institutions; and, Salinity Management Options for the Color--

ado River, a study in which four States were involved. Being reviewed at

the present time is the final report for the, Second Phase, Water Resources

Research in the Lower Colorado River Basin, which includes 135 projects

reported up to April, 1978; copies of the First Phase, which includes 283

projects, 1972-76, are still available.

A fourth project discussed was, The Four Corners Study of Public and

Legislative Opinion on Water and other Natural Resources. Survey data has

been collected in the Four Corners States and coded. To date, five papers

concerning the study have been presented or published, or accepted for

.

publication; and a book is being review for publication. A fifth project,

Lawn Evapotranspiration in Urban Environment, conducted by investigators

in Wyoming, Colorado, and Arizona, is concerned with efficient grasses,

with regard to water use, for urban lawns; two years of data are now avail-.

able for this study. A sixth regional project, Evaluation of Antitrans-

pirants, for which the final report is nearing completion, was discussed

C-4
