("eJ'

SYLLABUS

This section of the AWR Report covers ths plan for expanding
the prssent program of collecting basic hydrologio data to such an
extent that oeverage cf the arsa will be adequate for pressnt and
foreseeable future needs. Types of data covered are hydroclimatio,
.stream flow, quality of water, sediment, and ground water.

There are 1,005 wsather stations and 13 snow oourses ourrent1y
~~ng operated in ths AWR Basins. The proposed program oomprises 353.
&d4itiona1 stations and the modifioation of 91 existing stations. Six
additional snow-measuring courses are proposed.

The current stream-gaging program oonsists of 373 daily
discharge or reservoir oontsnt stations and about 250 stations where
partial discharge and/or stage records are col1soted. A total of 292
additional stations are proposed.

A program of 196 additional chemioa1 quality of watsr stations
is proposed to supplement the present program. A short discussion of
baotsrlo1ogical and bio1ogioal quality of water studies is .ino1uded but
no specifio program is proposed.

.The present program of oolleoting data on suspended sediment
would be expanded by the addition of.107 such stations. Proposed
reservoir sedimsn~tion surveys would cover 7 largs, 123 medium, and
434 small reservoirs, in addition to those currently being providsd
for. A program is propossd for the making of valley and ohanne1
sedimentation surveys on 1,155 miles of small valleys.

It is proposed that the ourrent program of ground-watsr
invsstigations be supplemented by the.initiation of 129 additional
investigations.

cost .&Stimates are pressnted for all proposed additional
work, and ths most important parts of the programs are indicatsd and
.reoommended for initiation in the first six years.

It is oonoluded that the plans presentsd herein for the
oollection of basic hydrologio data should he adoptsd as a framework
from which .the responsible agencies should schedule thsir opsratlons
in the AiR area.

ix
