Potential con-
struction materials located in reconnaissance should be sampled and
mapped in order that their volume and suitability for construction
might be determined.

As additional and more refined data become available, further plan
formulation studies should be made. The studies should include reevalu-
ation of pumping alternatives including the use of natural gas prime
movers instead of electrical prime movers, pump-back-storage power gen-
eration, and the feasibility of inclUding in the project irrigable area
the lands lying along Thompson, Three Mile, and Four Mile Creeks.

A program of cooperative work with Federal, State, and local agencies
shou~d be initiated early in the investigation so that the findings of
their investigations can be used in plan formulation and so that their
reports will be available for inclusion in the project feasibility report.

The local irrigators should be contacted to determine their desires
toward participation in the Basalt project and to obtain their views con-
cerning development and operation of the project.

48
