Smith, Secretary-
Engineer, the Colorado River Water Conservation District. The report is
appended to the Bureau of Reclamation report of September 1959 on the
Ruedi Dam and Reservoir, printed as House Document No. 353, 86th Congress,
2d Session. Other appendixes to that report which are related to the
Ruedi Reservoir include reports by the Corps of Engineer, Fish and Wild-
life Service, a11d NationaJ. Park Service, and two reports made for the
Colorado Water Conservation Board on possible water requirements associ-
ated with potential oil shale developments near the Colorado River belO1{
the Ruedi Reservoir site.

Present investigations

The present investigations, initiated in the spring of 1961, have
been directed primarily toward determining the optimum plan for irriga-
tion development of lands in the Basalt project area utilizing water of
the Ruedi Reservoir. Data from previous investigations were utilized
where applicable.

The investigations have been generally of a reconnaissance nature.
Field work has included reconnaissance land classification; geologic
examinations of potential sites of terminal storage and canals and of
possible sources of construction materials, and the collection of data
on existing irrigation facilities and agricultural development. Office
work has included preparation of water supply estimates, simulated opera-
tion studies, designs and cost estimates, economic analyses, considera-
tion of various alternative plans of development, and the compilation of
the report and supporting data.

11
