<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />. <br /> <br /> <br />\. <br /> <br />Moore and Wood - 7 <br />Oral - GSA <br /> <br />We have selected a l2-mile reach of the valley as <br /> <br />an example to outline the techniques used to build and <br />evaluate the model. <br /> <br />DATA COLLECTION AND EVALUATION <br /> <br />The study was divided into two basic phases: <br /> <br />" <br />h, <br />L <br />I' <br /> <br />;' <br /> <br />(1) the definition of the physical limits and characteristics <br /> <br />of the ground-water reservoir; and (2) the relations of <br /> <br />ground water, surface water, and climate. <br /> <br />Figure 2.--Geologic map of part of the valley. <br /> <br />- <br />On this map are defined the rocks that are aquifers <br /> <br />and those that act as barriers to ground-water movement. <br />The aquifer is shown in yellow and consists of gravel, <br />sand, silt, and clay of Pleistocene to Recent age. The c) <br />aquifer in this 12-mile reach averages 2 miles in width. <br />The valley fill rests in a U-shaped trough cut in bedrock. <br /> <br />The bedrock is shown in green, gray, and hlue and <br /> <br />consists of shale and limestone of Late Cretaceous age. <br /> <br />Figure 3.-~Hydrogeologic cross section. <br />
