0262

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

TO THE STOCKHOLDERS OF
THE TWIN LAKES RESERVOIR AND CANAL COMPANY

Gentlemen:

The 1971~1972 season's snow pack on our transmountain watershed was
below normal. The snow survey taken April 28, 1972, showed the water
content on the western slope to be 92% of normal.

From November 1, 1971 to November 1, 1972, we brought 44,669 acre feet
of water through Tunnel No. 1 according to the water commissioner's
computations of the East Portal measurement charts. The tunnel was shut
off from October 10, 1971 to March 22, 1972 to complete the concrete
lining. The maximum discharge through the tunnel was 610 eubic feet per
second at 6:00 A.M. on June 6, 1972.

Prior to completion of the tunnel lining the maximum discharge in recent
years had been 476 cubic feet per second. For 16 days in May and June
the tunnel discharge exceeded this amount rendering 3,430 acre feet of
additional water. Some spilling still occurred due to the rate of snow
melt being greater at times than the oapaoity of the tunnel.

Following is a tabulation in aore feet of the Independenoe Pass Trans_
mountain Diversion System's water produotion for the past five years:

~

1972
1971
1970
1969
1968

PRODUCTION

Total
S Year Average

44,669
;0,493
61,160
;0,777
;0.017
2;7,116
;1,423

The ooncrete lining of Tunnel No.1 and the oonstruotion of a nell 12 foot
Parshall flume and recorder house at East Portal lIere oompleted bT The
Eagle Construotion Corporation in lIIid Maroh, 1972.
