program being carried out at the Yuma. Test Facility. Both electl:'odialysis
and reverse osmosis are commercially available processes and in all, probability
both will be used. The exact mix of these processes has not yet been determined,
but it will be dependent on bid prices received, manufacturing capabilities, apd
W the final configuration of the plant.
00

There is no question that this project is a pioneering effort just as
Hoover Da.m was. And like Hoover Dam, there will be certa.in problems that
we will have to solve. We have some advantages over the situation that ~isted
when Hoover Dam was being designed, however. We can test out proposed solutions
in small sca.le before incorporating them into the big plant, and suppliers can
test their equipment before it is used in the plant. I am confident that this
ability to test before connnitting, coupled with the continued cooperation of
ADlerican industry and the strong management capabilities of the Bureau of
Recla.ma.tion, will result in a project which ultimately will be of greater
benefit to the United States than to Mexico.

{'

1
j,

[',
,:t-

;1

~. __w~,., :.a..

6

<\-"
