<br />c. Contractor's campsite.- The contractor's camp,
<br />shop, office, and yard area shall be located and
<br />arranged in a manner to preserve trees and
<br />vegetation to the maximum practicable extent. On
<br />abandonment all camp, storage, and construction
<br />buildings, including concrete footings and slabs, and
<br />all construction materials and debris shall be
<br />removed from the site, The camp area shall be left
<br />in a neat and natural appearing condition.
<br />
<br />d. Borrow areas and quarry sites.-Borrow pits and
<br />quarry sites shall be so excavated that water will not
<br />collect and stand therein, Before being abandoned,
<br />the sides of borrow pits and quarry sites shall be
<br />brought to stable slopes with slope intersections
<br />rounded and shaped to provide a natural
<br />appearance. All rubbish, contractor's equipment and
<br />structures shall be removed from the site. Waste
<br />piles shall be leveled and trimmed to regular lines
<br />and shaped to provide a neat appearance.
<br />
<br />.
<br />
<br />e. Blasting precautions.-In addition to the
<br />requirements of Paragraph 3B the contractor shall
<br />adopt precautions when using explosives which will
<br />prevent scattering of rocks, stumps, or other debris
<br />outside the work area.
<br />
<br />f. Costs,- The cost of all work required by this
<br />paragraph shall be included in the price bid in the
<br />schedule for other items of work,
<br />
<br />33, SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC
<br />
<br />Roads subject to interference by the work shall be kept
<br />open or suitable detours shall be provided and
<br />maintained by the contractor. The contractor shall
<br />provide, erect, and maintain all necessary barricades,
<br />suitable and sufficient flasher lights, flagmen, danger
<br />signals, and signs, and shall take all necessary
<br />precautions for the protection of the work and the
<br />safetY of the public. Roads closed to traffic shall be
<br />protected by effective barricades on which shall be
<br />placed acceptable warning and detour signs, All
<br />barricades and obstructions shall be illuminated at
<br />night, and all lights shall be kept burning from sunset
<br />until sunrise.
<br />
<br />The cost of all work required by this paragraph shall be
<br />included in the prices bid in the schedule for other
<br />items of work.

<br />34, MAINTAINING PUBLIC TRAFFIC

<br />.
<br />
<br />The contractor shall make all necessary provisions for
<br />the maintenance of public traffic and shall conduct his
<br />

<br />operations for the construction of the roadway so as to
<br />offer the least possible obstruction and inconvenience
<br />to public traffic, At any and all points along the work
<br />where the nature of the construction operations in
<br />progress and the equipment and machinery in use are
<br />of such character as to endanger passing traffic, the
<br />contractor shall provide such guards as may be
<br />necessary to insure against accidents and avoid damage
<br />or injury to passing traffic.
<br />
<br />The cost of all work involved in providing for
<br />maintenance of public traffic, as set forth in this
<br />paragraph, shall be included in the prices bid in the
<br />schedule for other items of work.
<br />
<br />35. RECORDS OF
<br />GEOLOGIC MAPPING
<br />
<br />The drawings included in these specifications show the
<br />available records of geologic mapping for the work
<br />covered by these specifications. The Government does
<br />not represent that the available records show
<br />completely the existing conditions and does not
<br />guarantee any interpretation of these records or the
<br />correctness of any information shown on the drawings
<br />relative to geological conditions. Bidders and the
<br />contractor must assume all responsibility for
<br />deductions and conclusions which may be made as to
<br />the nature of the materials to be excavated, the
<br />difficulties of making and maintaining the required
<br />excavations, and of doing other work affected by the
<br />geology and the ground-water elevations at the site of
<br />the work.

<br />EARTHWORK
<br />
<br />36, CLEARING RIGHT-OF-WAY
<br />
<br />a. Limits.- The right-of-way for the roadway to a
<br />width of 5 feet outside of the cut slope lines, and to
<br />the toe of embankments, and waste areas, the
<br />surface of all borrow pits, and the right-of-way for
<br />other work to be performed under these
<br />specifications shall be cleared of all vegetable
<br />growth such as trees, brush, grass, weeds, and all
<br />other ,objectionable matter: Provided, That trees
<br />designated by the contracting officer which are on
<br />the right-of-way for the roadway shall not be cut
<br />and shall be protected from injury,
<br />
<br />Materials from clearing operations shall be
<br />t destroyed or removed from the site of the work t
<br />before the date of completion of the contract as
