<br />2. The only Colorado squawfish that ascended the fish passageway <br /> in 1996 was found in the trap in late-August. Three <br /> squawfish collected in the trap in 1997 were recaptures and <br /> had been previously captured in the Colorado River downstream <br /> of Moab. Utah. <br />Table 1. A total of 12,235 fish were trapped and counted in the <br />Redlands Diversion Dam fishway between 27 March and 24 <br />October (Appendix; Table 2), Native fishes comprised 94% of <br />the total number of fishes collected in 1997. identical to <br />that of 1996. Flannelmouth sucker comprised 43% of the <br />catch. and bluehead sucker. 41%. White sucker comprised the <br />largest number of nonnative fish (2%). No northern pike were <br />captured but 94 channel catfish used the fishway. <br /> <br />3. Comparison of the total number of fish captured in the fish <br />trap during 1996 (24 June to 25 October) was made with the <br />same period in 1997 (3D June to 24 October; Appendix; Table <br />3). A total of 8.360 fish representing five native fishes. <br />11 nonnative fishes. and three hybrid sucker fishes were <br />collected during the 4-month period in 1996 compared to 1997 <br />where 5,289 fish representing five native fishes were <br />collected. Native fish comprised 90% of all fishes collected <br />during this period in 1997 compared to 94% in 1996. A <br />noticeable decrease in the number of bluehead sucker <br />collected during this period was noted (3,786 in 1996 to <br />1. 731 in 1977). <br /> <br />3 <br />
