Post Office and Court House
Omaha, Nebraska 68102

Dear Mr. Burnett:

Our office has reviewed the Department of the Army, Corps ,of Engineers,
environmental impact statement for the Bear Creek Dam and Lake, Colorado.

The statement presents a thorough description of the environmental impacts
and remedial, protective, and mitigative measures.

The statement meets the requirements for environmental statements. Of
special interest to us is your description of steps which can be taken to
reduce sedimentation, lake shore erosion, improve critical area cover and
add to the natural beauty through plantings of suitable species.

The Bear Creek Dam and Reservoir are located in the Jefferson County Soil
Conservation District. Technical assistance in plant species adaptation
planting techniques and other soil and water conservation practice guidance
can be obtained from the office of the Soil Conservation Service in Golden,
Colorado.

Our Service assisted with the preparation of specifications for the Corps
of Engineers for estaJlishin~ protective plant cover on the Chatfield Dam,
south of Denver,

Another agency's comments will perhaps include the requirement of needed
protection of archaeological and historical resources. We did not find
any reference to the protection of these types of resource in your state-
ment.

Sine erely ,

, "'? ~,/
-c-' 7f:!(01,{ /,-,,/(//jI
M.
