Wells on the map have been <br />color coded according to the nitrate level measured in the well. The wells in green have <br />nitrate levels below the laboratory detection level of 0.5 mgIL. Wells in yellow indicate <br />nitrate present in the sample but below the drinking water standard of 10 mgIL. Wells <br />represented in red indicate nitrate levels exceeding the EP A drinking water standard. The <br />elevated nitrate levels (above the EPA drinking water standard) appear to be concentrated in <br />three areas: Pueblo County near Avondale, Otero County between Fowler and La Junta, and <br />Prowers County near Lamar and Granada. <br /> <br />6 <br />
