". ,.

ALTERNATE SURPLUS THRESHOLD ELEVATIONS

3. 90C: Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 90 percent capacity of Lake
Mead. Surplus conditions are determined when capacity of Lake Mead
was equal to or greater than 90 percent capacity or about elevation
1197.9 feet at the beginning of the year. A 100 percent Lake Mead
capacity on January 1 is about elevation 1214.5 feet, due to flood control
space requirements.

4. 80C: Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 80 percent capacity of Lake
Mead. Surplus conditions are determined when capacity of Lake Mead
was equal to or greater than 80 percent capacity or elevation 1180.0 feet.

5. 70C: Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 70 percent capacity of Lake
Mead. Surplus releases are determined when capacity of Lake Mead was
equal to or greater than 70 percent capacity or elevation 1160.2 feet.

6. 60C: Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 60 percent capacity of Lake
Mead. Surplus releases are determined when capacity of Lake Mead was
equal to or greater than 60 percent capacity or elevation 1137.7 feet.

MULTIPLE SURPLUS THRESHOLD ELEVATIONS

Model runs were then designed to test the effects of a multiple surplus threshold elevation
strategy which would yield more surplus conditions during the early years, but preserve more
water in conservation during the later years. These runs included:

7. 60C/80C (2010): Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 60 percent capacity
of Lake Mead during years 1993 to 2010. Surplus Threshold Elevation
increased to 80 percent capacity of Lake Mead for years 2011 to 2050.

8. 60C/80C (2001): Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 60 percent capacity
of Lake Mead during years 1993 to 2000. Surplus Threshold E1evation
increased to 80 percent capacity of Lake Mead for years 2001 to L050.

9. 70C/80C (2001): Surplus Threshold Elevation set at 70 percent capacity
of Lake Mead during years 1993 to 2000. Surplus Threshold Elevation
increased to 80 percent capacity of Lake Mead for years 2001 to 2050.

16
