The costs borne by those displaced by the Narrows

project are, in a number of cases, severe and profound. The

Bureau of Reclamation needs to explore means of providing
selected services to these families and individuals which are
relevant, timely, locally available, and tailored to the complex
needs (housing, employment, health, etc.) which must be dealt
with if displaced families are not to bear severe personal
consequence in the name of the public good. Moreover, the
50 mile relocation limit and compensation for families need
careful reconsideration.

The report concludes that from a social perspective,

the Bureau of Reclamation can make a major contribution to

the overall well-being of many families in the affected areas,

as well as to communities further away which will share in

the benefits of a Narrows dam.

.

.

..

5
