these boating uses are anticipated. To minimize these conflict~
as much as possible, reservoir surface zoning has been
implemented.

High-speed boating is restricted to the main body of the
reservoir and at least 50 feet from the shoreline.

Dry Canyon, Beaver Creek and House Creek drainages are reserved
for no-wake boating. Buoys designate the no-wake zones. These
drainages are vary narrow canyons which provide good fishing
opportunities. The Great Cut Arm and the upper end of the
reservoir (inlet) are reserved for low-speed boating as these
areas are subject to drawdowns and shallows can occur which are
dangerous to high-speed boating.

Boat ramps and courtesy docks are provided at the McPhee and
House Creek complexes. Light boating craft - small boat,
sailboats, canoes, kayaks, and rafts may also be launched at
fisherman access points.

The Forest Service is responsible for management and operation of
water-oriented facilities and shoreline areas of the reservoir.

The Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation is
responsible for the licensing of boats, the supervision and
inspection of safety equipment, and enforcement of state boating
laws and regulations. The Montezuma County Sheriff will also
have law enforcement responsibilities on the water and in the
area.

3. Water-Skiing and Swimming

Due to the speed necessary for water-skiing, this activity is
restricted to the main body of the reservoir or high-speed
boating areas. If conflicts arise due to this activity that are
greater than anticipated, additional zoning or restrictions may
be necessary.

Swimming is not allowed in the boat launching and docking areas.

4. Picnicking and Camping

Picnic and camping facilities are developed at the two major
complexes, McPhee and House Creek. Family campgrounds provide
for tent and recreation vehicle camping, and two-family units and
family picnic grounds provide for both single and tWO-family
units. Group facilities are provided for both picnicking and
camping. Group sites are operated and managed on a reservation
system.
