<br />l'\) <br />co <br />,.... <br />C.il <br /> <br />Accomplishments for <br />Calendar Years 1992 - 1993 <br /> <br />The Lower Gunnison Basin Salinity Control Surge Demonstration Program is sponsored by the <br />United States Deparunent of InteIior (USDI), Bureau of Reclamation and is administered by the <br />Colorado State University Cooperative Extension (CSUCE). <br /> <br />'i~:?b I <br />..,... <br />'.-.:.". <br />I <br /> <br />Eighty surge system demonstration project sites have been established to date in both Delta and <br />Montrose Counties, Thirty-nine of which concluded their two year pmticipation in the research and <br />demonstrations at the end of the 1993 calendm' yem', <br /> <br />The eighty surge demonstrations provided a combined salt load reduction in the Lower Gunnison <br />Basin Salinity Control Units of2,264 tons of salt over the two year peIiod, Amortizing this savings at <br />the $200,000 program cost for the two years over a twenty tlve year life expectancy of the equipment <br />with an 8% interest rate results in an annual cost of $9,264 or a cost effectiveness of approximately $4 <br />per each ton of salt saved, <br /> <br />Funding <br /> <br />.:....:.. <br />, , <br />.'.- <br /> <br />In fiscal years' of 1992 and 1993. a sum of $200,000 was appropIiated for the Lower Gunnison <br />Basin Salinity Control Surge Demonstration Program, This amount was used to purchase eighty surge <br />units for distribution to the participants, This included purchases of necessary monitOling equipment <br />It also covered, in pmt, staff salmies and operational expenses, The program was made possible by a <br />grant (Federal Identifier #1-FC-40-11630) to Colorado State University Cooperative Extension, <br /> <br />Page 6 .
