.

.

to.
-
c
-

NO. 1

BASALT PROJECT

c.

1. Location and water source:

Southeast of Glenwood Springs, (Gar-
field, Eagle and Pitkin Counties).
Fryingpan River and other tribu-
taries of the Roaring Fork.

2. Estimated cost: $ 17,545,000
3. Irrigated acreage: 20,489
4. Average cost per acre: $856
5. Average annual additional stream depletion: 26,000 a.f.
6. Average annual additional stream depletion per
acre of irrigated land: 1.27 a.f.
7. Benefit-cost ratio: 2.34 to 1

The foregoing summary of the Basalt project is based
upon a reconnaissance report completed in 1962. The information
is therefore current. Although the development cost per acre is
quite high, the benefit-cost ratio is the most favorable of any
remaining projects for which reconnaissance data is available.

The project would utilize waters stored in the Ruedi
Reservoir. Since this reservoir will shortly be constructed and
the waters stored therein be available for use, and because of the
high benefit-cost ratio of the project, we recommend that it be
accorded priority No.1. The same priority was afforded the project
by the Colorado River Water Conservation District Board.

The Basalt Water Conservancy District is in the process
of organization. Conditional water rights for the project have
been secured by the Colorado River Water Conservation District.
