Nebraska would be allowed to divert up to 500 cfs into the

canal between october 15 and April 1 of each year under the

priority date. Colorado has a right to 35,000 acre-feet annually

for future uses which would have a priority over the water

reserved for the "Perkins County" Canal. The point of diversion

of the canal would be southwest of OVid, Colorado (Figure 1), if

it is ever constructed.

(7) The COmpact does not affect the rights of Colorado water users in

the upper section, except that diverters in the lower section

curtailed pursuant to paragraph 5 above may, in turn, callout

junior water rights in the upper section.

water Storage and COnveyance Systems

The delineation of the South Platte River basin within Water Division 1 and

into its former water districts (Figure 10) provides the basic organiza-

tional format for a more detailed discussion of water storage and

conveyance systems (Figure 11). Located within the study area on the

mainstem SOuth Platte River are a part of former Water District 8 and all

of former Water Districts 1, 2, and 64. Encompassing drainages of

tributary streams of the South Platte River are former Water Districts 9

(Bear Creek), 7 (Clear Creek), 6 (Boulder Creek), 5 (St. Vrain Creek),

4 (Big Thomspon River), and 3 (Cache la Poudre River) (Figure 10). Former

Water Districts 49 and 65 encompass the Republican River drainage, which is

outside of the study area but pertinent to the evaluation of water

resources development alternatives (Figure 10). Locations of specific

ditches cited below can be found in Figure 11.-1 (Appendix 11.).
