The purposes of
the meeting are to familiarize the public with the project and the
salt reduction alternatives; receive the public's ideas, suggestions,
concerns, and preferences; develop criteria for selecting the recommended
plan; and give the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users Board a chance to
distribute questionnaires to obtain needed information, which they would
share with the planning team. After a short introduction to the project
and a review of current status of planning activities, small groups will
be formed for additional discussions. . At least one planning team member
will be assigned to each group to informally direct discussion of agenda
items, and a representative of each group will later summarize the
discussions for the entire audience. The general result~ will be reported
in a newsletter and considered at the planning team meeting a few weeks
later.

Environmental Scoping Session at Public Meeting.--The public meeting in
July or August will also constitute a "scoping session" to give the
public a chance to identify significant environmental issues to be incor-
porated into the project environmental statement. New regulations for
implementing the National Environmental Policy Act require an early and
open process for assessing environmental issues.

New Planning Team Organization.--The following changes have 'been made in
the project planning team.
. Team Leader: Nick Mezei replaces Bruce Nelson, who accepted a
job in private industry in North Dakota.
Water Resources: Jack Cunningham replaces Jack Generaux, who
transferred to the Office of Surface Mining in
West Virginia.
Engineering: Tim Looney replaces Ken Ouellette, who transferred
to the Plan Formulation Branch in the Grand Junction
Office.
Reports Writing: Chuck Langham replaces Ken Maciula, who entered private
business in Oklahoma.

QQtS5~
