The first appropriution for the d2ffi was granted <br />by the 80th CongrEss, 1st Session, (Public Law 299), a supplemental <br />appropriation mu'sun which ,llottcd funds to th~ l'l1ssouri River Basin <br />devElop,nc'nt. <br /> <br />The essential fenturE of the plan of dCvElop:ncnt is the- J1,'rrows <br />DJm 2nd ResErvoir on the South flette River about SeVEn miles west <br />of the town of Fort l'lorgen. The purpose of this nSErvoir is to <br />provide flood control end irrigDtion stON'€,E, with incident.al sediment, <br />fish and wildlifc, ~nd rEcrc"tion benEfIt.s. Floods on Bijou Creek <br />will be controlled by diversion of thet creek into N~rrows Reservoir. <br /> <br />AltErnate D~msites.--Ln selecting the most feasible site for a <br />reSErvoir to acco.nplish flood control end conservation storage for the <br />lower re~ch of the South Pl"ttc River, studics were nw.de of six d1f- <br />fer~nt drunsites on the South Platte River in Morg~n and Wc~d Counties, <br />Color~do. Designated in downstrE~~ order, th~se are thE H&rdin, <br />Goodrich, Weldona, ~arrows, Fort ~organ, ~nd Old Fort ~orgGn sites-- <br />the only sites found in the vicinity th~t could conceivably be con- <br />sidered e s al tErna tes for accomplishing the s~me purpos~s os the <br />l~e.rrows Dnm. <br /> <br />Hardin Sitc.--The capacity of a rcs~rvoir to th~ physic~l <br />U!oits of the Herdin site would be LJ23,000 aCrL-fE~t at mEximuil! water <br />sUl'fac6 e!<ovation LJ570.
