IJ.:... ~:I <br /> <br />RECREATION RECONNAISSANCE REPORT <br /> <br />NARROWS RESERVOIR <br />MrSSOURI RIVER BASIN PROJECT <br />SOUTH PLA.'l.'l.'E DIVISION <br />NARROWS UNIT - COLORAOO <br /> <br />I. DlTR01JUCTION <br /> <br />This Reconnaissance Report on the Narrows Reservoir is prepared <br />by the National Park Service as authorized in the Park, Parkway <br />and Recreational Area Study Act of 1936 and in accordance with <br />the 1955 Memorandum of Agreement between the Bureau of Reclamation <br />and the National Park Service. The report is intended for use as <br />a supplement to the Bureau's Feasibility Report. <br /> <br />Previous reports prepared by the National Park Service inClude <br />"Reconnaissance Report on Recreation Potentialities of the Fort <br />Morgan, Narrows, and Weldona Reservoir Sites" dated June 1948, <br />and a supplemental report in 1950 to assist in determining the <br />elimination of the alternate sites, "Recreational Planning <br />Report for Narrows Reservoir," dated August 1951 with a synopsis <br />of that planning report. <br /> <br />A field review of the reservoir site was made November 2-3, 1965, <br />by personnel from the Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Sport <br />Fisheries and Wildlife, Colorado Department of Game, Fish and <br />Parks, and the National Park Service, to study the present Bureau <br />of Reclamation project proposals. This statement will supersede <br />all previous reports and will reflect the recreation potential <br />and planning for the reservoir based upon the most recent project <br />information. The latest procedures for estimating monetary <br />benefits, acquiring additional recreation land, and provisions <br />provided in the Federal Water Project Recreation Act, Public <br />Law 89-72, are also incorporated into this report. <br /> <br />This report is for use by the United States Government and is <br />not to be publicly quoted in whole or in part without express <br />.permission from the Bureau of Reclamation. <br /> <br />II. SUMMARY <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation is proposing to build the Narrows Dam <br />on the South Platte River about seven miles upstream from Fort <br />Morgan, Colorado. If authorized, the reservoir will extend <br />about 13.5 miles upstream, at top of joint use pool (elevation <br />4404.3), 12.5 miles at top of conservation pool {elevation <br />
