Lara~e <br />Irrigation District), 1919-2u, describe briefly the development <br />of Dry Creek into tr~e ;;ry Creek Drain and drainage system. Prac- <br />tically from the beginning of the project the need for an ofrstream <br />regulating reservoir has been recognized. Bureau r.aps of the <br />~lorth ?latte ?roject, published in 1909, 1920, and 1929 show a <br />potential reservoir site on Horse Creek in ~yocing. In subsequent <br />years an investigation of the Horse Creek site was l".ad.e, inchding <br />the drilling of lu test holes at the da=slte in 19uO. This site was <br />not considered feasible, primarily because of the depth to suitable <br />foundations. <br /> <br />Present Investi~ation <br /> <br />'I'he investigation on whic!1 this report 1s based was condu:ted <br />during the spring and summer ~onths of 1941. The site on Dry <br />Creel< Drain was chosen 07.~ the alternative to U".e :~orse ':reek site <br />since it would serve the sa::!e puro05eJ ar.d conditions \'fere more <br />favorable for construction. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Th~ investigation was conducted in connection with the North <br />Platte River Rehabilitation InvestigationSJ using General Investi- <br />gation funds allotted to the district under notice of allotments <br />fro:r. Region 7 headquarters dated February 17, 19u7J and May 26J <br />191.7, <br /> <br /> <br />Scope of Present Ir.vesti~ation <br /> <br />A preliminary report has been nreoared on this project. The <br />darr,si te and reservoir area weTC covered by a topographic survey. <br />;' geological investigation waS reade, and foundations explored by test <br />pits 8r:d core drilling. T~st pits aOO trenches ....ere dug for the <br />purpose of sa":'lpling and determinin:-: the extent of the barra<< pits. <br />Detailed water and reserv,;ir op-..-'ration studies were made to determine <br />the c3p3city required for stora.:;;e of waste water.
