~~
~
~
\...:.:
':--)

c'

A Use of Water on Federal Irrigation Projects study was conducted in

the Grand Valley in 1965 through 1968. During this period an

average annual application of 94 acre-inches was made. The overall

irrigation efficiency was 30 per cent.

Because of variations in climatic conditions no direct comparison

of water applications can be made.

Because of the late start in the 1972 season complete records of

the water applications are not available. The 1973 irrigation

season will be the first full year of irrigation scheduling in the

Grand Valley. At the end of this season better results will be

available.

Most water measurement during the 1972 season was done by the field

represeptatives. During the 1973 season the participants were

urged to report irrigation events and estimated applications.

During both the 1972 and 1973 seasons the representatives have

worked closely with the irrigators. Tha participants are, interested

in reducing water applications and the number of irrigations to

reduce labor cost.

On a typical field during the 1972 season an estimated 90 acre-inches

was applied with an estimated average 40 per cent efficiency.

An indication of the work being done this year is that the irrigation

applications are smaller result ing in higher efficiellcies. On

,
some scheduled fields irrigation effic~encie. are averaging Qver
