<br />Browns Park waterfowl management <br />area. under administration olthe Utah Division 01 <br />Wildlife Resources. Is located below Flaming <br />Gorge Reservoir on the Green River near the <br />Utah-Colorado State line Management area <br />headquarters have been completed. and 270 <br />acres of Impounded water and related waterfowl <br />lood plots have been developed at two major sites. <br />A third site. consisting 01 541 acres, was com- <br />pleted during the year. A canal has been com- <br />pleted to carry water to this unit. Ninety goose- <br />nesting units have been completed. A 5-year re- <br />port on a study 01 goose habits and needs was <br />completed The overall management area is <br />allracting numerous resident and migratory game <br />bird poputations and is increasing in public <br />popularity as a Iishing, hunting and bird-watching <br />site. <br />Miller Mesa watertowl area is on the west <br />shore of the NavajO Reservoir just south 01 the <br />Colorado-New Mexico State line. A small reservoir <br />and two terrace ponds have been completed and <br />filled. About 170 acres 01 agricultural land have <br />been planted to barley, oats, wheat, and aUalla lor <br />wildlife management purposes Waterfowl use <br />pallerns indicate that birdS Irom other agricultural <br />and res ling areas in the San Juan Valley are using <br />the Miller Mesa site with increasing frequency. <br />Desert Lake waterfowl management area <br />comprises 2,480 acres of acquired and public <br />domain land in eastern Utah near HunUngton <br />North Reservoir, Administered by the Utah Divi- <br />sion of Wildlile Resources since January 1968, <br />the area's contribution to waterfowl resources <br />management was Significantly Increased by <br />rehabilitation of the historic Desert lake dike and <br />completion 01 five additional diked areas below <br />the existing impoundment. These structures are <br />all lilled and the lakes are used by resident and <br />game bird populations and migrant waterfowl. A <br />pipeline has been completed to assure an ade- <br />quate water supply to ~he area. <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />Several prOjects have been initiated to <br />mitigale fishery and big game losses and to work <br />out problems caused by the construction 01 CRSP <br />leatures: <br /> <br />Curecanti Unit, Colorado. The fish study <br />on the Gunnison River continues. <br />Navajo Unit, Colorado and New Mexico A <br />design has been prepared to provide for modillca- <br />tion of the outlet workS and spillway at Navajo <br />Dam These structures. in their present form, lend <br />to increase nitrogen supersaturation problems <br />believed to cause fish kill in the stream belOW <br />Bonneville Unit, Central Utah ProJect, <br />Utah. Feasibility studies have been completed for <br />the Wissiup Waterfowl Management unit which is <br />the first of six units to be constructed to mitigate <br />wildlife losses <br />Flaming Gorge Unit, Utah.
