The Colorado River squawfish, the humpback chub, the bony tail <br />chub, and the razorback sucker exist in at several other <br />locations in the Upper Colorado River basin. They have been <br />identified in the Gunnison River, the White River, the Yampa <br />River, and the Green River. Construction of the Animas-La Plata <br />project might affect the population or the habitat of the <br />endangered fish species in the San Juan River basin, but it will <br />not affect the population or habitat of the species elsewhere in <br />the Upper Colorado River drainage. <br /> <br />5. Finally, the best course of action to guarantee implementation of <br />the Indian settlement agreement, and recovery of the fish, is not <br />clear at this point. We must talk further with our congressional <br />delegation, the environmental community, the Indians, and the <br />proponents of the project, to determine the best course of <br />action. We know members of Congress are looking for solutions in <br />discussions with the Secretary of Interior and in various <br />proposals for congressional or administrative action. <br /> <br />0576A <br />
