<br />1856 Thomas H, Blythe settled in Palo Verde Valley, probably
<br />making first California use of Colorado River water.
<br />1860 0, M, Wozencraft and Ebenezer Hadley proposed irriga,
<br />tion and colonization of 3,000,000 acres in Imperial Valley,
<br />using canal route through Mexico via Alamo River,
<br />1877 July 17, Thomas H, Blythe made first filing on Colorado
<br />River water fOl' use on his Blythe Rancho in Palo Verde

<br />1900 Construction of Imperial Canal started by California Devel,
<br />opment Company following the Alamo River for 50 mile,
<br />through Mexico,
<br />June 17, Federal Reclamation Act appro\'ed,
<br />November, Colorado River broke into Imperial Valley
<br />causing great damage and creating widespread consciousnesg
<br />of need for Hood contrul on the river.
