Upper ,Gunnison River Basin Project <br /> <br />Water rights with a priority date of November 13, 1957, for <br />the Wayne :N, Aspinall Unit (formerly Curecanti Unit) of the <br />Colorado giver Storage Project were granted by the Colorado <br /> <br />Water Court to the Colorado River Water Conservation District. <br /> <br />These rights were assigned by the district to the United Stated <br />in Januar~ 1962 subject to the condition that the unit would be <br />. " t!--"- f" <br />developed ~nd operated In manner conslstent wlth bene IClal use <br /> <br />i <br />of the wat'ers in the Gunnison River Basin. In order that <br /> <br />future dev~lopments in the Upper Gunnison Basin would be <br /> <br />assured of, rights to use of water, a formal contract was <br /> <br />developed for execution among the United States Government, the <br />c~.r:>~"L~ <br />Upper 9 .~~vn River Water Conservancy District, and water <br /> <br />users in the Upper Gunnison Basin whereby the diversion and <br /> <br />storage right of the Aspinall Unit would be subordinated to <br /> <br />60,000 acre-feet of future developments upstream, both private <br />and Federal, even though the rights of the upstream <br />developments might be junior to the Aspinall Unit right. <br /> <br />However, this agreement was never executed by the United <br /> <br />States. <br /> <br />: .--:,. <br />The aggregate amount of the up.stream depletions for <br /> <br />-13- <br />
