.

-3-

from that reservoir were initiated in the first week of March. Early
in April, Painted Rock releases reached the Well ton-Mohawk District and
early in May flow reached the mouth of the Gila River, discharged to the
Colorado River, and the waters were delivered to Mexico as a part of its
Treaty allotment, but did not adversely effect the quality of the deliveries.
By August 31, the total volume released from the reservoir amounted to
about 371,000 acre-feet with about 247,000 acre-feet remaining in storage.

As the floodwaters passed through the District during the last four months
of operations under Minute No. 241, an appreciable part of the waters
infiltrated into the ground causing the water table to rise. The District
increased the volume of pumping to relieve this condition with an attendant
increase in the salinity of Well ton-Mohawk drainage. This situation
complicated United States operations during the last four months of operations
under Minute No. 241, but because all Well ton-Mohawk drainage was by-passed
and because of the cooperation of the Well ton-Mohawk District in carefully
limiting its discharge of pumped waters to the Gila River, waters diverted
by Mexico were not adversely affected.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

.

The cooperation of the Bureau of Reclamation and the Well ton-Mohawk Irrigation
and Drainage District in carrying out the United States operations under
Minute No. 241 is acknowledged with appreciation.

~~~
J . .
