Maverick Draw Site -- Pump to Lateral Alternative

:;g

A dam and reservoir would be constructed on Maverick Draw 5.3

miles northeast of Norwood, The reservoir would have a maximum sur-

face area of 434 acres, and would extend up the draw 3 miles. A

diversion dam which would feed an inlet pipeline, would be built on

the San Miguel River. The pipeline would convey San miguel River

water down the canyon 7.6 miles and would empty into a 3.4-mile

pressure tunnel. The tunnel would carry the water from the San

Miguel Canyon to Maverick Draw. Water for the project would be

pumped from Maverick Draw Reservoir into pipe laterals for the wright's

Mesa area and over to a booster pumping plant in East Lilylands to

serve that area and Dry Creek Basin. A canal would not be used. Water

developed from the existing system would be consolidated with the water

developed by the Maverick Draw facilities to form the overall San

Miguel Project, Gurley Canal would be lined to prevent water seepage.

,The San Miguel Project, under this alternative, would provide

irrigation water for 12,700 acres of supplemental and 7,060 acres.

of full service land. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to

deliver the irrigation water to project land, which would employ

sprinkler systems. Municipal and industrial water would total

14,000 acre-feet: 12,000 for the Colorado-Ute Electric Association

and 2,000 for domestic use on Wright's Mesa.

,

~~
