cv:
r--
N

"

15. Maverick Draw Site

Pump to Canal AlternatLve

>."""
,i..;:'.;-'
<:.~-'
,~'.

G

This plan, calls for Maverick Draw, Dam to be lJuilt on 'Maveridc'

Draw 5.3 miles northeast of Norwood. Maverick Draw Reservoir would

have a maximum surface area of 434 acres, and would back up water

from the dam a distance of 3 miles. A diversion dam on the San

Miguel River would funnel project water into a 7,6-mile inlet pipe-

line, which would convey the water down the San Miguel Canyon and

into a 3.4-mile pressure tunnel. The tunnel would extend from the

San Miguel Canyon wall through the divide separating the canyon and

>Maveric1.-, Draw. Water for project uses on Wright's Mesa, in the

Lilylands and Dry Creek Basin, would be pumped from the reservoir

to the head of ? shorter Basin Canal 1.3 miles south of Norwood. The

canal would cross the mesa and continue on to Dry Creek Basin, The

existing irrigation system would be consolidated with the new facilities,

and Gurley Ditch would be rehabilitated.

Under this plan, the San Miguel Project would supply irrigation

water for 12,700 acres of supplemental and 7,060 acres of full service

land. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to deliver the irriga-

tion water for use by sprinkler systems on project land. Municipal and

industrial water would total 14,000 acre-feet annually, with 12,000 acre-

feet allocated for the proposed Colorado-Ute Association generating plant

and the remaining 2,000 acre-feet for domestic use on Wright's Mesa.
