-'
r--
~:

~.

c.

14. Beaver Creek Alternative

;::-:~--
?..:~~

'.

,This alternative plan would have Beaver Creek Dam located on

the mouth of Beaver Creek, just south of the San Miguel River. The

reservoir would back up Beaver Creek Canyon 2.8 miles, and would

have a surface area, when full, of 253 acres. An inlet pipeline

would carry water diverted from the San Miguel River 8.5 miles to

the reservoir, and an outlet pipeline would carry project water

from the reservoir 4.2 miles to a pumping plant located in the San

,Miguel Canyon below the' "s" curve on top of the Norwood' Hill. The

pumping plant would lift the water 475 feet into Basin Canal, which

would cross Wright's Mesa and continue on to Dry Creek Basin. The

existing irrigation system would be tied in with the new facilities,

;)'~:.;, '

and Gurley,Ditch would be lined to reduce seepage losses.

The San Miguel Project, under this alternative, would provide

irrigation water for 12,700 acres of supplemental and 7,060 acres of

full service land. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to

,~
deliver the irrigation water for use by sprinkler systems on project

land. Municipal and industrial water developed by the project would

total 14,000 acre-feet annually: 12,000 acre-feet for the proposed

coal-fired generation plant to be operated by the Colorado-Ute Electric

Association, and 2,000 acre-feet for domestic use on Wright's Mesa.

,/

,
