Clayhorse Site Alternative <br /> <br />::;~;3; <br />. .~--: <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />Thi.s alternative would have a Clayhorse Dam ano Reservoir"with <br /> <br />the dam located on the San Higuel River 5.9 miles downstream of the <br /> <br />bridge at the bottom of Norwood Hill on Highway 145. Clayhorse <br /> <br />Reservoir "lOuld back water up the canyon 3.6 miles, and would have <br /> <br />a maximum ,mter surface of 367 acres. There would be no rf,locations, <br /> <br />but a 4.6-mile access road would have to be built up the canyon, an <br /> <br />extension of the current road that runs along the bottom of San Miguel <br /> <br />Canyon below Horsefly Creek. Approximately 5.4 miles of this existing <br /> <br />road would be improved. <br /> <br />Project water would be pumped directly to Wright's Mesa, a <br /> <br />vertical lift of 950 feet. The water would enter the head of Basin <br /> <br />Canal at a point 2.5 miles east of Norwood. llasin Canal would in turn <br /> <br />.',;': <br />~, ,- <br />'.:/1 <br /> <br />carry the water across Wright's Mesa and on to Dry. Creek Basin. Water <br /> <br />developed~from the existing system would be consolidated with the <br /> <br />water developed by the Clayhorse facilities to form the overall San <br /> <br />. <br />Miguel Project. Gurley Ditch would be lined to prevent water seepage. <br /> <br />The San Miguel Project, under this alternative, would provide <br /> <br />irrigation water for 12,,700 acres of supplemental and 7,060 acres of <br /> <br />full service land. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to deliver <br /> <br />the irrigation water to project land, where it ,would be spread by means <br /> <br />of sprinkler systems. Municipal and industrial water would total 14,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet: 12,000 acre-feet for the proposed Colorado-Ute Electric <br /> <br />Association's powerplant and 2,000 acre-feet for domestic use on Wright's <br />. <br /> <br />Mesa. <br /> <br />, <br />
