Site #3 -- Pump From River Alternative

~:~~

The Site 1/3 -- Pump From River' AI,ternative plan of development for

the San Miguel Project would place SaltadG Reservoir on the San Miguel

River 2.6 miles downstream of the junction of Highways 145 and 62.

Saltado Reservoir would cover 395 acres when full and would back

water up the canyon 3.1 miles, in the process inundating ,portions of

Highway 145 and "old" Placerville, both of which .lOuld be relocated.

Project water would be released directly into the river at the

dam, and would be pumped 820 feet to Wright's Mesa from a pumping

plant :ocated, on the river 11.5 miles downstream. After reaching

Wright's Mesa, the water would be carried across Wright's Mesa and

over to Dry Cr~ek Basin via the Basin Canal. The new project water

supply would be combined with the supply developed by the existing

system to form the total project supply. Gurley Canal would be

rehabilitated as part of the project.

The San Miguel Project implemented in Site #3 -- Pump From River

Alternative would provide irrigation water for 19,760 acres: 12,700

acres of supplemental service land and 7,060 acres of full service

land. A sprinkler irrigation system would be implemented on the

irrigated areas, using buried pipe laterals to distribute to

water through the project area. Fourteen thousand acre-feet of

municipal and industrial water would be provided by this alternative

annually. Twelve thousand acre-feet would be allocated for the

proposed Colorado-Ute Electric Association coal-fired generating

plant, and 2,000 acre-feet would be allocated for domestic use on

Wright's Mesa.
