(C
an

-,
...

7. Site #3, Pump From Tunnel Alternative

;,,;:1';
:""
,-~.!

This alternative calls for the construction of Saltado Dam on,

the San Miguel River 2.6 miles downstream of the junction of Highways

145 and 62. Saltado Reservoir would cover 395 acres, and would extend

upstream 3.1 miles. ,The part of "Old" Placerville below the junction

of Highways 145 and 62 would have to be relocated, and Highway 145

would have to be moved a total of 3.5 miles.

The water would flow through a 12.5 mile tunnel to Wright's Mesa,

where it would be pumped 320 feet to Basin Canal. This canal would

cross Wright's Mesa and continue on into Dry Creek Basin. The existing

water collection and delivery system would be tied in with the new

facilities to form the overall San Miguel Project system. One of the

main features of that existing system, Gurley Canal, would be lined

to prevent seepage losses.

. :~~~~
:i;'.\.)

Under this plan, the San Miguel Project would supply irrigation

water for 12,700 acres of SUpplemental service land, with another

7,060 acres of full service land also receiving project water.

Municipal and industrial water would total 14,000 acre-feet annually,

with 12,000 acre-feet allocated for the proposed Colorado-Ute Electric

Association generating'plant and the remaining 2,000 acre-feet for

domestic use on Wright's Mesa.

....'

- 13'-
