o
Ii"'
C'J

4. Site #2.8 Alternative

. .1
Saltado Dam would be constructed on the San M1guel River 2.9

miles downstream from the junction of Highways 145 and 62. Saltado

Reservoir would form behind the dam for a distance of 3.1 miles and,

at maximum water surface, would cover 395 acres. Highway 145 would

have to be relocated 4.6 miles, as would a 1.1 mile stretch of the

Specie Creek Road. A portion of "Old" Placerville also would have

to be relocated.

An II-mile pipeline would carry water down the San Miguel

River to a pumping plant located below the "s" curve atop the

'Norwood Hill. The pumping plant would lift the water 320 feet to

Wright's Mesa to the head of Basin Canal, which would convey the

water across Wright's Mesa and on to the Dry Creek Basin. The

currently existing system of Cone, Gurley and Lilylands Ditches

~\
il~
t,',"
~i';
1\
F!
\'"
~n

would be tied in with the new facilities. Sprinkler

irrigation would be accommodated through the installation of new

buried pipe laterals. Twelve thousand acre-feet of industrial water

would be allocated for the proposed coal-fired generating plant to

be operated by the Colorado-Ute Electric Association. Two thousand

acre-feet of water would be allocated for domestic use on Wright's

Mesa, ,bringing the total of municipal and industrial water to

14,000 acre-feet (annually) for the San Miguel Project.

,I
,.

:1
l' ,
. ,
{c,:oz,','i'.
,"'1
\

I
f
I'
:'j
!tj,
:~r
ii,

I

,
'f
I.
II
:i

,
I
"
.
l
'I
I

.'~
