00
~
C~

3. Site //2 -- Sprinkler Irrigation ,Uternative

",~
.:~:.~.~

This plan would have Saltado Dam located on tl:e San Miguel

"

River 4.4 miles dcwnstream of the junction of Highways 145 and 62.

When full, Saltado Reservoir would have a surface area of 373 acres,

and would extend upstream 3.4 miles. Highway 145 would have to be

relocated for 5.1 miles. The Specie Creek Road also would have to

be relocated for 2.8 miles.

Water would be conveyed to Wright's Mesa by means of a pipeline

and pumping plant in San Miguel Canyon. The 9.6 mile pipeline would

run from the Saltado Dam to the pumping plant, which would be located

below the Norwood Hill "s" curve on Highway 145. The water would

be pumped 360 feet into the head of the Basin Canal, which would

cross Wright's Mesa and traverse several drainages before ending in

Dry Creek Basin. The existing water collection, storage, and delivery

system would be meshed with the new facilities. Gurley Ditch would be

upgraded to reduce seepage losses.

This alternative would create a supply of water sufficient for

the irrigation of 12,700 acres of supplemental land and 7,060 acres

of full service land on Wright's Mesa and in the Lilylands and Dry

Creek Basin. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to deliver

the water to the project land, which would be irrigated by sprinklers.

Twelve thousand acre-feet of municipal and industrial water would be

made available by the project for the proposed Golorado~Ute Electric

Association's generating plant, with another 2,000 acre-feet made

available for domestic use on Wright's Mesa.

- 5 -
