Site #2 -- Gravity Irrigation Alternative

i
This alternative plan would place Saltado Dam on the San Miguel

River 4.4 miles dmmstream of the junction of Highways'145 and 62,

the same location as in the Site #2 -- Sprinkler Irrigation Alternative.

However, the dam would be larger, and the corresponding reservoir

would have a maximum, surface area of 509 acres, with water backing

u~ the canyon a distance of 4 miles. Five and one tenth miles of

Highway 145 would have to be relocated to higher ground, as would

'3.2 miles of the Specie Creek road. A portion of "Old" Placerville
also would have to be moved.

A pipeline would extend down the ca~yon to a point below the

"s" curye in Highway 145 near the top of the Norwood Hill. Here

the pipeline would end at a pumping plant, which would lift the

water 360 feet to Wright's Mesa. From there, the water would be

conveyed in Basin Canal across the Mesa and on to Dry Creek Basin.

"New" water from the proj ect would be consolidated with \<.ater from

the existing irrigation systems. Not included in this alternative

is the rehabilitation of Gurley Ditch.

This alternative would serve 12,700 acres of supplemental and

5,060 acres of full service land. This land would be located in the

Lilylands and Dry Creek Basin and on Wright's Mesa, and would be

irrigated mostly by means of the existing systems. Municipal and

industrial water supplied by the project would total 14,000 acre-feet

annually, with l2,OCO acre-feet allocated for the proposed Colorado

Ute Electric Association coal-fired generating plant. The other

2,000 acre-feet would be allocated for domestic use on Wright's Mesa.

- ':\ -

I
I

il

t'
;<:;:v
;..;(-
":::;-:;:
II
,
1

i
lr
.
!~
:l~
,~'L
;1-
,:,
1,

,

,

'.
'f
:1

!

...::?r<
f:r~~

I

"

','I
" :.
