"'-

~i

~
c:

fl'

1. Site #1 Alternative

/{;~

This alternative plan would have Saltado Dam located on the San

Miguel River 7 miles downstream of the junction of Highways 145 and

62. The dam would form Saltado Reservoir, which would be 3.5 miles

long and cover 373 .acres at maximum water surface. The reservoir

would inundate a portion of State Highway 145, necessitating the

. roadway's relocation.

A pipeline would extend from the dam down the San Miguel Canyon

a distance of 6.7 miles to a pumping plant located on the south side

of the canyon below the Norwood Hill "s" curve on Highway 145. The

pumping plant would pump the water 470 feet to the head of the Basin

Canal on Wright's Mesa, three miles east of Norwood. The canal would

extend from Wright's Mesa across Naturita Canyon to Dry Creek Basin.

:;~:~~.. :
<:'.;,.):~

Water developed from the existing system would be consolidated with

the water developed by the Saltado facilities to form the overall San

Miguel proj ect.

Gurley Ditch would be lined to peduce the seepage

losses.

N

The San Miguel Project, under this alternative, would provide

irrigation water for 12,700 acres of supplemental and 7,060 acres of

full service land. Buried pipe laterals would be constructed to

,

deliver the irrigation water for use by sprinkler systems on project

land. Fourteen thousand acre-feet of municipal and industrial water

would be provided by the project annually -- 12,000 acre-feet for the

proposed coal-fired generation plant to be operated by the Colorado-

Ute Electric Association, and 2,000 acre-feet for domestic use On

Wright's l1esa.

,
