The main portion of the Ogallala found in the <br />Panhandle area of Oklahoma lies in the counties of Cimarron, Texas, <br />Beaver and Ellis. Tracea can also be found in Harper, Woodward and <br />Roger Mills Counties. For this report, available sourCes of informa- <br />tion will limit the discussion of the problem area to the panhandle <br />counties of Cimarron, Texas and Beaver. <br /> <br />The Oklahoma Panhandle is included in an area termed the High <br />Plains ,or Llano Estacado. Generally the area slopes to the east <br />with the highest point being the Black Mesa (elevation 4,973 feet) <br />and the lowest point on the Cimarron River in eastern Beaver County <br />(elevation 2,000 feet). Annual <br />snowfall ranges from 14 to 16 inches yearly. <br /> <br />o <br />The mean annual temperature is 57 with the mean daily maximum <br />o 0 <br />varying from 57 in January to 95 in July and August. The average <br />length of the growing season varies from 170 to 183 days. Evaporation <br />on lakes average 62 to 64 inches per year with average wind speeds of <br />14 miles per hour. <br /> <br />110 <br />
