This leveraging of funds from the Basin States cost-share program, <br />in conjunction with EQIP, has and will continue to gready increase the rate of <br />implementation of salinity control practices in the Basin. NRCS is willing to continue to <br />work Mth the Work Group to obtain their input on a fiscal year basis for identifying how <br />EQIP funds may be most cost-effectively spent in the Basin and in ensuring that contracts <br />from producers for salinity control are processed in a timely manner. <br /> <br />~"RCS is pleased that the Council appreciates the employing of a Basin Salinity <br />Coordinator in July 2000. i'<"RCS has received very positive reports of the Coordinator's <br />etTorts since his employment from the Forum, Work Group, and other individuals <br />involved in salinity control etTons. Additionally. NRCS is pleased with the Forum's <br />support of this position and their willingness to co st. share in the coordinator's position. <br /> <br />The Basin Salinity Coordinator.has been tasked with improving communications with the <br />cooperating Federal and State Agencies, providing bettertechnical and financial <br />coordination with NRCS managers at the local, State and national level, and identifying <br />actions to improve the effectiveness of the salinity program. Progress is apparent in these <br />areas <br /> <br />The ranking process and criteria used to allocate EQIP funds are developed by the <br />locally-led conservation groups, concurred in by the State Technical Committees. and <br />recommended to the State Conservationists for their approval.
