The scope of investigations was enlarged to afford a
study of every possible plan. In the course of these studies many
features were discovered worthy of preliminary Investigations and men-
tion, uut net s~itable for incorporation into tha project. Some of
these feat\:.res "-ro inoluded in th~ N",xlm\i!" G,c"..".tty Diversicn, ottars
were integratod wi'oh the Mf'.xi:au-r, Gra.-'ii:y Dive,"sion into a plan foc'
Maximum Physical Development. The ame.unt of w"-ter diverted under tl1a
MaXimum Physical Developmont is COllil~clo,.ed beyond the amount available
for trans for from the Colorado Rl:".er Basin to the Arkansas Rivor Basin
under the allocation to Colorado in the tEm::atoive draft of the Upper
States Compact. This llaximum Physical Dewelopment and threo alternate
plans are discussed briofly in this chupter. Features investigated
but not incorporated either into the Maximum Gravity Diversion or the
above plans are discussed 1nChRptcr II, "Rojected features".

RESERVOIR SITES

Ideal roservoir and damsites in the Arkansas. Valley are extremely
soarce. Sitos which are most desirable beclluse of natural conditions
have already been developed. On tho Western Slope suitable sites to
oontrol trllnsmountain diversi~n water for delivery to the Eastern Slope
are more plentiful. In an effort to find tho best possible roservoir
sites for dovelopment, the Arkunsas Valley and Western Slope diversion
areas were investigated by complete rDconnsissance. In order that no
potential sites would be everlooked, records and mnps in State and
county offices were examined and checked; also innumerable reports and
maps of Federal and Stato agenoies and individuals were studir.d. Sites
which appcared most dosirable and held possibilities of further consi-
deration in any potential plan of development w~ro examined in the field
find preliminary data obtained. Some of tho sites were surveyed, inves-
tigated geologically, and drilled for foundation exploration.

_I
I

The following table shows the reservoir sites in the project area
which hnve boen included in tho Maximum Gravity Diversion, the Maximum
Physical Development, and the throe alternate plans.

1
