-.

4'1"0
.i~0

The additional recreation utilization within the Project
development area will:

(1) stimulate the economic activity for goods and
services primarily during the summer in the counties
of Eagle, Pitkin, Chaffee, Lake, and Pueblo, and there
will be more job opportunities to be filled to meet
the needs of the tourists. The summer tourist activity
will economically complement the winter skiing activity
and thereby establish a year-round economy in the
mountainous counties,

(2) give the Forest Service personnel an additional
management load because of the need to operate and
maintain Project developed campgrounds, and to assist in
controlling public utilization of access roads to the
remotely located diversion. structures. Greater visita-
tion to the area will increase the potential of having
more forest fires caused by campfires both within and
outside of designated campgrounds, and

I,

(3) increase the hunting and fishing pressure. More
personnel from the Colorado Division of Wildlife and
the Fish and Wildlife Service may be required for fish
and wildlife management purposes and for law enforcement.

.

An annual net increase of 485,800 man-days of fishing and
hunting (FWS, August 1969) is anticipated as a result of
developing the Project features listed below.

Feature

Ruedi Reservoir
Turquoise Lake
Twin Lakes
Clear Creek Reservoir
Pueblo Reservoir
Pueblo area
upland game
waterfowl
fish hatche1:Y
Arkansas Rive::
Public access to the
Arkansas River
Leadville Fish Hatchery

Total

.

I V-38

Activity

Estimated additional
man-days annually
with project

Fishing
Fishing
Fishing
Fishing
Fishing

34,500
30,500
35,700
5.400
90,000

Upland game hunting
Waterfowl hunting
Fishing
Stream fishing

2,800
4,500
175,000
5,400

Fishing
Fishing

2,000
100,000

485,800
