Cortez, Colorado, Thursday, May 16, 1974 <br /> <br />Water issue <br /> <br />Recent remarks made by Larry <br />Sparks, executive director of the' <br />Colorado Water Conservation' Board <br />has stirred up interest as well as <br />controversy on the water issue re- <br />volving around the Dolores River <br />Project. <br />I Sparks pulled no punches in his <br />remarKs and some of the various <br />water groups ba ve tak~n issue with <br />him, - presenting their side of the <br />story which' definitely has merit. <br />Companies such as the Monte- <br />zuma Valley Irrigation Co. and .the <br />Montezuma Water Co. or for that.' <br />matter any other, private enter- <br /> <br />prise deeply resent being pushed <br />around by goyernmental agencies; <br />boards such as the Dolores Water <br />Conseryancy don't like to be "rub- <br />ber stamps" for higher agencies <br />and at the same time many of these <br />groups or individuals from various <br />governmental levels, are sincere <br />and dedicated, belieVing they are <br />acting in the best interests of every- <br />one" <br />So before the entire issue gets too <br />far along in the name - calling stage, <br />all parties involved should be able <br />to sit down and try to resolye their <br />~Uferences, TJJ <br />
