Cross Drainage

I
I

Cross drainage flows, or the flows in natural drainages that intersect the

canals and laterals, were computed using the McMath procedure. TheMcMath

formula is:

Q = CI A4/5 Sl/5

I
I

where

Q = Peak discharge, ft3/s
C = Coefficient of runoff
I = Rainfall intensity, inch per hour, for time of con-
centration for watershed, for given frequency
A = Area of watershed in acres
S = Slope, feet per 1,000 feet

I

I

I

A C value of 0.32 was adopted for use on Lake Andes-Wagner Unit.

I
I

Rainfall intensities were read from a depth-duration curve drawn for data

in Weather Bureau Technical Paper 40. The area and slope were determined

from 1:24,000 topographical maps.

Water Rights

I

Water rights for the Lake Andes-Wagner Unit must be obtained by the
Irrigation District or operating agency from the South Dakota Department of
Water and Natural Resources (SDDWNR). Th~ Lake Andes-Wagner Irrigation
District has obtained a future use permit: for 1,040 ft3/s from Lake Francis
I
I

I

I

Case.

1

The SDDWNR has been contacted concerning issuance of water rights for the

project. They stated that there is unappropriated water available in the
I

I

Missouri River.

I

Supply System

I

The irrigation supply and distribution system for the project will include

the main pumping plant, six large re1ift ?umping plants, five smaller

1

I

I

34

I
