<br />~1'\SI <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />INITIAL PHASE <br />CENTRAL UTAH PROJECT <br /> <br />The initial phase of the project would divert water from Rock Creek, a <br />tributary of the Duchesne River, the Duchesne River, Currant Creek aIP. the Straw- <br />berry River. All of these streams are in the Uinta basin, a portion of the Green <br />River basin in Utah. Part of this watEr would be acquired by exchanges involving <br />water for 42,600 aC3:'es in the Uinta basin oJ: which more than one hall' are owned <br />by Indi ana . No water from Flaming Gorge or Echo Park would be used. The collec- <br />tion system would discharge into Strawberry Reservoir, which would be enlarged <br />from its present. capacity oJ: 283,000 acre feet to 1,370,000 acre feet. The ex- <br />isting Strawberry tunnel into the Bonneville basin in Utah would be enlarged. <br />The development in this basin would be limited to the area between Salt Lake City <br />aIP. Nephi, Utah. <br />The average flow to be diverted from the Green River basin would be about <br />155,000 acre feet, in oodition to the 69,200 acre feet average diversion through <br />the existing tunrel. About 48,000 acre feet of the diverted water would be used <br />for municipal, industrial and miscellaneous purposes. <br />The following data relative to the project were taken from the February 1.951 <br />report of the Bureau of Reclamation: <br />Acres to be irrigated. 28,500 acres of new land, of which 6,900 acres are <br />in the Uinta basin. 132,000 acres, of which 34,500 acres are in the Uinta basin, <br />would receive supplemental water. <br />Power generation. Installed capacity of power plants in Bonneville basin <br />would be 61,000 k.w. Annual generation would be 2.2 million k.w.h. <br />Depletion of Colorado River watEr. Estimated to average 189;400 acre feet <br />per year. <br />
