Laughlin, Consulting Engineer.

16. ABSTRACT
This study evaluates the use of saline water from the Big Sandy River as a
partial water supply to the Jim Bridger Power Plant in southwestern
Wyoming. The Big Sandy River is under investigation by the Bureau of
Reclamation as a potential control source for 167,000 tons of salt that
flows' annually into the Colorado River system.

The objectives of the study included the technical and economic evaluation
of process and equipment options for saline water use, the determination
of incremental costs, .and selection of potential modifications within
existing plant boundaries. Based on technical screening and economic
analysis, the selected process option used a blended water supply for
powerplant cooling with applied sidestream lime/soda softening. Design
provisions were also 'made for use/disposal of blowdown and wastewater in
the scrubber systems and lined disposal ponds.

17. KEY WORDS ANQ DOCUMENT ANALYSIS
o.
